【Predecessors release medicine】

"Introduction to Medicine": Cornus officinalis is an astringent, so how can it dissipate evil? Because all diseases are caused by coldness in the lower body, it can nourish the liver and kidneys to benefit the source, so that the five internal organs are at peace, the blocked ones are unblocked and the loose ones are stopped, which is not like other medicines that are light and unblocking.

"Mianshui Yantanlu": "Cornus officinalis can nourish the bone marrow. Its core is warm and astringent, which can retain the essence and qi, so that the essence and qi will not leak out, which is why it can nourish the bone marrow. Nowadays, people peel off the flesh and discard the core, which is totally different from the ancients' intention. This is all far-fetched. If you use the main treatment in "Compendium of Materia Medica", you should just follow this. If there is another main treatment, use the rhizome instead, and follow another prescription.

"Ben Cao Jing Shu" states: Cornus officinalis treats cold and heat of evil qi under the heart, wind evil of the stomach and intestines, cold and heat headache, wind and qi coming, nasal congestion, and facial pimples, all of which are dominated by the liver and kidney meridians. The two meridians are due to deficiency heat, so the above symptoms are seen. This medicine is warm and can pass through, pungent and can disperse, sour and can enter the liver, and restrain deficiency heat, wind evil dissipates, then the cold and heat of the stomach and intestines under the heart will be eliminated, the head and eyes will also be clear, and nasal congestion and facial pimples will all be cured. For those who expel cold and dampness, it is pungent and warm to disperse the knot, and it can move and replenish. The qi is warm and mainly replenishes, and the sour taste is mainly astringent, so the essence and qi are improved and the yin is strong. If the essence is improved, the five internal organs will be at ease, and the nine orifices will be beneficial. In addition, the kidney and the bladder are the exterior and interior. If the bladder is cold and weak, urination will not be controlled. The ear is the external orifice of the kidney, and kidney deficiency will cause deafness; the liver opens the orifice to the eye, and liver deficiency will cause evil heat to invade and cause yellow eyes; if the two meridians are affected by cold evil, it will cause hernia and abscesses. If the two organs are replenished, all symptoms will be cured.

"Pharmaceutical Chemistry": Cornus officinalis nourishes yin and blood, mainly treats blurred vision, tinnitus, bitter mouth and dry tongue, blue face, sweating and chills, and is a good product for nourishing the liver and gallbladder. The heart is the son of the liver. The heart is scattered and likes to be restrained. Concentration leads to tranquility, and tranquility leads to peace and harmony. This can restrain its scatteredness and treat weak heart and weak qi, palpitations and restlessness, which means that the mother is nourished when the heart is weak. The kidney is the mother of the liver. The kidney likes moisture and hates dryness. It stores essence and qi. This acid can restrain and produce fluid, treat nocturnal emission, leukorrhea, yang deficiency, irregular urination, weak waist and knees, and sore feet, which means that the son makes the mother strong.

"New Compendium of Materia Medica": If a person has diarrhea at dawn, grind 2 liang of Cornus officinalis into powder, add rice to make pills, take all of it at one minute before going to bed, and then suppress it with rice, and abstain from drinking alcohol and sex. The diarrhea will heal itself in three days. Diarrhea at dawn is caused by deficiency of kidney qi. Cornus officinalis replenishes kidney water, and its nature is astringent, so it can be used for two purposes. Pushing it can stop the slippery semen, reduce urine, and kill three kinds of worms. Some people suspect that Cornus officinalis is warm in nature, and those with yin deficiency and fire should not take too much. If yin deficiency and fire are moving, how can it be replenished by Cornus officinalis to produce water and stop the deficiency fire of dragon and thunder? All fire starts from water deficiency. If you replenish water, the fire will naturally go down. If you warm the water, the fire will naturally calm down. If you don't use Cornus officinalis to nourish the essence and warm the kidney, but use Phellodendron chinense and Anemarrhena asphodeloides to drain water and chill the kidney, I am afraid that the water will become dryer and the fire will become drier. The kidney will become colder and the fire will become more. It will inevitably damage the spleen and cut off the lungs. If both the spleen and lungs are damaged, will the person have vitality? Therefore, Cornus officinalis is a medicine for treating Yin deficiency and fire. It is not doubted that its warm nature will help fire.

Ben Jing Feng Yuan states: Fructus Corni can induce sweating, but it is a mistake to say that it can restrain sweating. Because it is sour and astringent, it has no reason to induce sweating. Zhong Jing's Bawei Wan uses it, because it can benefit the kidney qi, so it can be stored properly, and nourish the liver yin, so it can be discharged without any worries. Yi and Gui have the same origin.

"Medical Records of Chinese and Western Medicine": Cornus officinalis can greatly restrain vital energy, invigorate the spirit, and consolidate and astringe slippery. It has the nature of astringency and smoothness, so it can also open up the nine orifices, circulate blood vessels, treat spontaneous sweating due to liver deficiency, flank pain and back pain due to liver deficiency, and the stirring of internal wind due to liver deficiency. It can also restrain the positive energy but not the evil energy, which is different from other sour and astringent medicines. Therefore, "Ben Jing" calls it a medicine that can expel cold and dampness. The nature of its core is opposite to that of its meat, so it must be removed when used. Recently, I read in a medical newspaper that the core tastes astringent and is also astringent. Taking it always makes urination difficult. If you break it and taste it, you will find that it has an astringent taste. This may be credible. The loss of vital energy in all people is in the liver. Therefore, when a person is extremely weak, his liver wind must move first. The movement of liver wind is a sign that the vital energy is about to be lost. In addition, the liver and gallbladder are interdependent organs. The gallbladder is Shaoyang, and when it is sick, it is responsible for alternating cold and heat; the liver is Jueyin. Extreme weakness also causes alternation of cold and heat, and because of the cold and heat, there is a lot of sweating. Cornus officinalis can not only stop sweating, but also nourish the liver. Therefore, it is the most effective for people with extreme liver deficiency and loss of vital energy. I first tried the power of this medicine and thought it was my own original idea. After carefully reading the "Shennong Benjing", it was found that Cornus officinalis was originally responsible for cold and heat. The cold and heat it controls are the alternation of cold and heat in the liver meridian. "Benjing": It controls the cold and heat of evil qi under the heart, warms the middle, drives away cold and dampness, and removes three worms. "Leigong Paozhi Lun": It strengthens the vital energy and retains the essence. "Bielu": It treats wind evil in the stomach and intestines, cold and heat hernia, headache, wind coming and going, nasal congestion, yellow eyes, deafness, pimples on the face, warms the middle, lowers the qi, sweats, strengthens the yin, benefits the essence, calms the five internal organs, opens the nine orifices, stops urination, improves eyesight, and strengthens strength.

Precautions for making Chinese herbal medicine:

1. The medicine jar must be cleaned

When decocting Chinese medicine, the medicinal juice is concentrated due to evaporation of water, and a layer of medicinal scale often accumulates at the bottom and around the medicine pot. If the decocted medicine in the medicine pot is often changed, and the accumulated medicinal scale is not wiped off in time, the medicinal scale will dissolve when the new medicine is decocted, interfering with and reducing the efficacy of the medicine, and even delaying the treatment of the disease. Especially if highly toxic medicines or external medicines that cannot be eaten have been decocted before, it may cause poisoning.

In addition, if the Chinese medicine is not cleaned immediately after each decoction, the scale at the bottom of the medicine pot will become thicker and thicker, and it will easily burn when the medicine is re-decocted, thus losing its efficacy.

2. Whether to cover the medicine

Generally speaking, in order to make Chinese medicine boil thoroughly, it is best to cover it. This is especially true for Chinese medicines containing volatile ingredients, such as mint, patchouli, and perilla leaves, and they should be boiled in a short time to prevent the active ingredients from volatilizing. For some expensive medicines, such as ginseng, deer antler, and wolfberry, the active ingredients should be fully released.

Some Chinese herbal medicines are light in weight and large in size, such as Centella asiatica, Prunella vulgaris, White tongcao, Loofah, Corn hair, etc., so they should not be decocted with the lid on, otherwise they will often overflow from the pot. You can decoct with the lid on and stir at any time.

3. Fry thoroughly and squeeze dry

"Decoction thoroughly" means that the active ingredients of the medicine are fully released, which is the basic requirement for decoction. For medicines with tough texture and difficult to release active ingredients at once, only by decoction separately, decocting first, decocting for a long time, etc. can the medicine juice be thickened and the efficacy be fully exerted. Medicines with loose texture and light and fragrant nature do not need to be decocted for too long; but herbs with light texture and large body should be stirred frequently to facilitate decoction.
