 "Compendium of Materia Medica" states: Red and blue flower is an essential medicine for blood circulation. It is used to treat postpartum blood loss and lockjaw. The reason is that the bad blood does not go down and rushes up to the heart, so the mind becomes confused and the mouth becomes lockjaw. It enters the heart and liver, causing the bad blood to go down, and then the dizziness and lockjaw stop. Abdominal colic is caused by the bad blood not being completely eliminated, and the fetus is dead in the abdomen. It will not go down without blood circulation; blood stasis will activate blood, so it can stop colic and expel dead fetuses. Red and blue flower is a medicine for blood circulation. It can stop blood loss and stop stagnation. Overuse can cause blood circulation and death.
 "Compendium of Materia Medica": Safflower is a medicine for breaking blood, promoting blood circulation, harmonizing blood, and regulating blood. It is used to treat all kinds of diseases caused by blood during pregnancy and childbirth, such as blood irritation, blood dizziness, coma and inability to speak; lochia grabbing the heart, umbilical and abdominal cramps; or difficulty in delivering milk; or placenta not falling off, and the fetus dead in the womb. These are all symptoms of childbirth, which cannot be cured without Safflower. If there is blood dizziness after childbirth, the mouth is closed and the fingers are twisted; or evil enters the blood chamber, delirium and madness; or blood is stuffy and swollen inside, and stiff as if dead, these are all symptoms of postpartum, which cannot be cured without Safflower. If there is amenorrhea and alternating cold and heat, or abdominal pain after due date and purple and black dripping, or blood stasis due to falls and injuries, or sores, itching, swelling and restlessness, these are all symptoms of disharmony of qi and blood, which cannot be cured without Safflower.

If you use more than three or four qian, it will be too pungent and warm, causing the blood to disperse. It can be used with Su Mu to remove blood stasis, combined with cinnamon to relieve amenorrhea, and assisted with Radix Angelicae Sinensis and Paeoniae Alba to treat blood and qi stabbing pain all over the body or chest and abdomen. This is to guide and activate blood. If you use less than seven or eight fen, it can soothe the liver qi, help the blood sea, and greatly replenish blood deficiency. This is to regulate and harmonize the blood; if you only use two or three fen, it will enter the heart to match the heart blood, dissolve the evil fire of the heart meridian, and harmonize the blood.
